Game #57: Marlins vs Giants

Land Shark Stadium - 6:45 PM - Andrew Miller vs Jonathan Sanchez

BOX

Backed by RBI doubled by Jorge Cantu and Ronny Paulino, Andrew Miller picked up his first win in five starts as the Marlins topped the Giants, 5-4 on a rainy night at Land Shark Stadium.

Emilio Bonifacio: 1-4, 2 K - Struck out on three pitches, three fastballs in his second AB and again in his third. Has struck out on three pitches 25 times this year.

Andrew Miller: 5.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R (1 ER), 5 K - Perfect through 4. 8/12 first pitch strikes. longest inning lasted 10 pitches. Was on the mound for 11 minutes. Then in the 5th, thanks to a Bonifacio error, his tenth, he had to spend 13 minutes on the mound and throw 22 pitches. That and a lengthy delay for the grounds crew before the start of the 6th disallowed him from ever finding his groove again and after allowing back-to-back singles and a walk to Pablo Sandoval, a 26:8 overall K:BB, and a 10:0 K:BB after 0-2 coming into tonight, he was pulled. He was unable to collect the quality start but it wasn't because of anything within his control as he was pulled at just 72 pitches. In his past four starts, Miller has lowered his ERA from 5.94 to 4.31, has struck out 26 and walked just 15, and only allowed 10 runs in 28 innings. I could get used to this version of him.

Cody Ross: 0-3, R, BB, 2 K - Latest streak is coming to an end. 5 LOB by the time the third was over. Since his monster five RBI game, he's just 1 for his last 9.

Matt Lindstrom: 0.2 IP, H, 2 ER, 2 BB, K - Struggled, loading the bases in the 9th on a hit and two walks, one of which came after he got ahead 0-2. fortunately, fredi continued to play him the right way and pull him before it was too late. It was the fourth time Lindstrom has been yanked in the 9th. Because a real closer is counted on to clean up his own mess, even though Lindstrom is still technically this team's closer, he's more like the first 9th inning option. Should he continue to struggle, with Brian Sanches pitching spectacularly with the bases clean, the closer controversy could soon begin.
