Game #91: Marlins vs Phillies

Land Shark Stadium - 7:10 PM - Chris Volstad vs Jamie Moyer

BOX

An outing after the Marlins finally beat him for the first time ever, Jamie Moyer proved that his deliberacy still works against them by staying perfect through four and ultimately tossing seven one hit innings on his way to a W.

Chris Volstad: 6 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, BB, 5 K - On the other side of the ball, all this guy proved was that he's not done struggling to keep the ball in the park as he gave up a 2nd inning homer to Raul Ibanez. It was the 18th homer he's given up this year. The Phillies do lead the league in road home runs but that's no excuse to give up six times as many homers than your rookie year total and six more than you've ever given up in your professional career. He responded to that inexcusibility by giving up another homer, his 19th, to Ibanez in his next AB and his 20th to Ryan Howard in the 6th. If Sean west, who had given up 24 runs in his last seven starts before being sent down is going to be demoted, Volstad, who has given up 26 runs in his last seven starts could probably use some time in the minors as well. However, with no one to call up to fill his spot in the rotation, he most likely won't be.

Brett Carroll: 0-2, K - Made a sliding catch then threw a flat footed strike to the plate to hold a runner at third. Behind only Rick Ankiel and Ichiro, this guy may have the third best arm in the game.
