Live Blog: Angels-Red Sox, ALDS Game 1

9:06 - Pink Eye Anderson flies out to Crisp in center to end the game. Beckett gets the complete game, allowing just four hits, no runs and recording eight K's. Not bad for his first postseason start at Fenway. Plus, the bullpen stays healthy.

Cue "Tessie" by the Dropkick Murphy's.

Sox up 1-0 in the series, with Game Two on Friday.
___
9:05 - Vlad just bounced a ball up the middle, prolonging the complete game.
___
9:04 - Groundout to Lowell. Two outs in the 9th.
___
9:03 - Great sliding catch made by Jacoby Ellsbury, who replaced Manny as a defensive replacement, to start the inning.
___
9:02 - Agaign, ignore whatever I say. After the Sox went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the eighth, Beckett is back out there to try and get the compelte game tonight against the Angels.
___
8:51 - Nevermind. Beckett just struck out ___ looking. Eight K's on the night for Beckett, and that's probably the end of his night.
___
8:51 - Beckett starts to show signs of tiring for the first time...the bullpen is ready.
___
8:45 - Santana just retired the Sox in order. See how he did that Lackey?
___
8:38 - That's it for Lackey as Ervin Santana takes over here to start the 8th inning. Lackey's final line: 6 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 4 SO, 2 HR, 1 UF (UF = Ugly Face).
___
8:36 - Beckett got a pop-up from Anderson and a groundball from Izturis to pitch his way around the Vlad single and get out of the 7th inning.
___
8:33 - Vlad just ripped a single through the left side here with one out in the 7th, ending Beckett's run of 19-straight retired. It is Anaheim's second hit of the game, their first since the first at-bat of the game.
___
8:23 - BASE HIT, J.D. DREW!!! (OK, yes, it was an infield hit on a ground ball, but still).
___
8:21 - Stephen King in attendance tonight. He is weird looking.
___
8:19 - Beckett in the 6th: eight pitches, three outs (two strikeouts, one sliding catch from Coco Crisp).
___
8:17 - Wait, Reggie Willits is white?
___
8:13 - Manny just struck out looking to end the fifth inning. He was not pleased with the call, and made sure that the home plate umpire was fully aware of that. Also, Lackey's already up to 91 pitches.
___
8:07 - Question right now: Salsa con Queso, or French Onion Dip?
___
8:02 - Fifteen straight retired by Beckett now. After 4 1/2, Sox still up, 4-0.
___
7:59 - Maicer Izturis just worked the count full before popping up. That should be considered a victory at this point for the Angels.
___
7:52 - Seriously though, Oktoberfest is delicious.
___
7:46 - Beckett just retired the Angels in order in the fourth, including a nasty pitch to strikeout Garret Anderson, and has now set down 10 in a row, with four strikeouts.
___
7:37 - I know it's already been said a lot, but, Lowell has had a ridiculous season, especially when you consider he was a throw-away part of the Becketter (anyone who wanted to trade for Beckett HAD to take Lowell, too). This year, he was probably the team's MVP, hitting .324/21/120 (AND he had an OPS of .879!).

And right on cue, he just laced a single into center to score Manny, making it 4-0 after three innings. It should be noted that Ramirez had a heads-up base-running play to get to second after drawing a walk.
___
7:32 - Lackey's struggles against the Sox will not be ending tonight. Youk ripped a double down the leftfield line and then Ortiz followed with a no-doubt home run to right. The Red Sox, who already have seven hits, are up 3-0 in the 3rd.
___
7:30 - Mmmmm...Sam Adams Oktoberfest...
___
7:21 - That's twice now that TBS has missed the first pitch of an inning coming back from commerical, and this time it meant missing a diving stop and throw by Mike Lowell. This is not the best start for TBS.
___
7:18 - Julio Lugo just successfully stole second base. But the umpire didn't care, and called him out anways. End of two, Sox up 1-0.
___
7:10 - We're through an inning and a half, and the best (read: worst) contribution play-by-play announcer Ted Robinson has made so far is that if he were the MLB Commissioner, he would pass a rule saying that batting helmets should be cleaned and polished before the playoffs started. Thanks, Ted.
___
7:01 - Somewhere, Bill Simmons is feeling very vindicated (maybe he's even sitting with the Dooze!) -- J.D. Drew just (weakly) grounded out to end the first. Youuuuuuuuk homered in the Monster Seats though, Sox lead 1-0.
___
6:59 - Just saw my first ad for "Frank TV," a new sketch-comedy type show staring Frank Caliendo. I mean, I like the guy and all, and he does have some pretty amazing impressions...but, really? His own TV show?
---
6:58 - I just walked in the door, late (thanks, DC Metro system), missing everything but the Garrett "Cut My Eye" Anderson's strikeout to end the first.

Tonight's starters: John Lackey (19-9, 3.01) for the Angels and Josh Beckett (20-7, 3.27) for the Red Sox. It should be noted that in his two starts against Boston this year, Lackey is 0-2, with an 8.38 ERA. In his last five starts against them, he's given up 43 hits...in 27 2/3 innings pitched.
___
6:47 - Hello all, and welcome to the first ever live blog done here on RCS (well, the first to my knowledge at least.

I figure, hey, it's the playoffs, it's the Red Sox and I have a "job" as a "writer" for a "website," so, why not live blog. Let's see how it goes.
