This battle pits one of the nation's best defenses against one of the nation's best offenses. Ohio State is number one in the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 10.7 points per game. Their leader on defense is Butkus Award winner James Laurinaitis. Laurinaitis is just a junior, but most think he will declare for the Draft following this game.
On offense, they are led by the steady QB play of Todd Boeckman. Boeckman completed just under 65% of his passes and threw for 2,172 yards, 23 TD's and 12 interceptions. But, their biggest offensive threat is Sophomore RB Chris Wells. Wells ran for 1,463 yards and 14 TD's.
Ohio State's defense will have their hands full with LSU. The Tigers averaged 38.7 points per game this season and topped the 40-point mark seven times. The Tigers use a two QB system with starter Matt Flynn and back-up Ryan Perriloux. The QB's spread the ball around to many different weapons. LSU has eight players with at least 10 receptions this season.
On the ground, Jacob Hester gets the majority of the carries. He ran for just over 1,000 yards and scored 11 times on the ground.
As always, turnovers could play a big factor and that would favor LSU. LSU has a plus 18 turnover differential, whereas Ohio State has a turnover differential of negative one.
