This 'Kobe is Better Than Jordan' Talk is Now Over, Right?

People have been anxious to dub players as "The Next Michael Jordan" for years now, desperate for someone to come along and "save" the NBA (remember when Allen Iverson was the great hope?). No player has received that title (and burden) more than Kobe Bryant, who just finished his 12th season in the NBA (how old did that make you feel?), and he may have officially ended any comparisons, all by himself.

Seriously, can you imagine Jordan losing a single game, let alone an NBA Finals game, by 39 points?! Joe Posnanski, great columnist (and great(er?) blogger) provided his take on that matter.

And the argument is over. Forever. I don’t care what happens from here on out, I don’t care how many points Kobe scores or how many good years he has left, nobody with sense will ever have the gall again to compare Kobe and Michael. It’s not even worth saying that what happened to the Lakers on Tuesday could not possibly have happened to a Michael Jordan TEAM. What is worth saying is that Michael Jordan playing BY HIMSELF would have put up a better fight.
Here's a statistical argument, if you're into that type of thing (Jordan's career PER: 27.9, Kobe's: 23.6), but let's make it official and all agree: no more comparing Kobe to Jordan. Ever.

Except, of course, when discussing divorce settlements.
