It took two overtimes, five days and 91 holes, but the 2008 U.S. Open finally has a winner: Tiger Woods.
Tiger didn't so much win as he did survive, and outlast Rocco Mediate.
Over at Deadspin, A.J. Daulerio writes that: "Years from now, this U.S. Open will probably be best remembered for Tiger's heroics — the eagles, the histrionics, the ridiculous chip-in, and the pressure-packed putt he sank to force a playoff. Rocco Mediate will most likely be forgotten after this year."
And sadly, he's probably right. Rocco had the best weekend of his professional career -- he had Tiger Woods on the ropes, needing to sink a putt on 18 to continue, TWICE! -- but will come away with nothing to show for it.
But together, they gave fans some of the most entertaining and exciting golf you'll ever see.
