Matt Jones: A Bust, Now Busted

Jaguars WR Matt Jones was arrested in Arkansas this morning, on possession of cocaine.

When Matt Jones was drafted 21st overall by the Jaguars in 2005, he instantly became a fan favorite...that is until he started to play. Jones played QB at Arkansas and was a freak athlete. At 6'6 and 242lbs., he could run the 40 in 4.4 seconds and had a 39.5-inch vertical leap. How would defenses contend with such athleticism? It turned out to be much easier than expected. In Jones' first three seasons he averaged 34 receptions, 464 yards, and just over four touchdowns. Not exactly stellar numbers.

Every year, he would have a couple amazing games that would cause people to have hope (and pick him up off fantasy waivers), but that would be it. Jones was already on the outs with the Jaguars, who picked up Joey Porter and Troy Williamson in the offseason.

Jones is just one casualty among the 2005 NFL Draft, which might go down as the worst in history. That draft could get even worse if Brett Favre returns, and Aaron Rodgers goes clinically insane, shouting at anyone wearing Wranglers and breaking-down into a sobbing mess whenever the number 4 is mentioned.
