The Sad Story Of Jimmy Gobble

Jimmy Gobble is a pitcher for the Kansas City Royals. He's from Bristol, TN, and during his senior year at John S. Battle High School, he was 10-1 with a 0.49 ERA. But chances are, you only know his name because he gave up 10 runs in just one inning pitched in last night's 19-4 thrashing at the hands of the Tigers.

The Tigers stretched their lead to 7-0 in the fifth and 9-0 in the seventh before pummeling Jimmy Gobble in a 10-run eighth inning that extended the lead to 19-0. All 10 runs were charged to Gobble, whose ERA spiked to 11.31.

“Everything feels good,” Gobble insisted. “My velocity is there. The ball is down for the most part. … You can’t hope for change. You’ve got to go out and do it.”

In all, Gobble faced 14 batters and allowed seven hits, four walks, one home run and the 10 runs, as his ERA ballooned by more than three runs in one game.

I'm guessing Jimmy Gobble wishes he was still just an anonymous pitcher on the Royals.
