It's been eight years since Team USA won a basketball gold medal in the Olympics (Shareef Abdur-Rahim was on that squad -- that seems odd now), but LeBron James says that drought will end in China next month. He even guarantees it.
"It's going to be like waking up on Christmas Day," says James, the Cleveland Cavalier and global icon who led the NBA in scoring this season. "All you dreamed about this whole month was having that bike you wanted, and you get down to your living room — it's there. It's like one of the greatest things that has ever happened to you." So you're going to bring a hoops title back home to the U.S., the country that gave birth to the game, reared it and then lost the ball to more graceful global neighbors? "Absolutely," James responds. Guarantee it? "Absolutely."America is 7/2 favorites to win the gold according to Vegas, so, it's not that outrageous of a guarantee, but I guess Angola has their bulletin board material now.
Interestingly, USA opens Olympic play against host-country China. Think there will be many people watching that one?
