Sometimes I don't understand how baseball fans get excited for all 162 games of the season. But then I remind myself how much I love all 82 games of the NBA season (especially since I'm a Lakers fan). But I've got news that should make even the harshest critics of the NBA get a little excited. (Cue Superman music) Dwight Howard will be defending his slam-dunk crown!
From the Orlando Sentinel:
"I thought about that [Wednesday], actually," Howard said. "Trying to think about what dunks I can do."
Howard even suggests he will have a web site where fans can give him ideas (a la Rudy Gay last year). If you're not excited you must have forgotten this:
Howard staying in the dunk contest is great for basketball. It harkens back to the days when genuine stars competed in the competition as opposed to just rookies and athletic bench players. Dwight Howard is an MVP candidate this year as shown by his absurd stat line of 30 points, 19 rebounds, and 10 blocks Wednesday night. Let's just hope Dwight's return to the contest is better than Superman Returns.
