The RCS NHL Power Ranking Averages combine seven* other sites' power rankings to make the most balanced and unbiased grade possible, and to offer the most accurate look at the state of the NHL on a weekly basis.
The San Jose Sharks have been dominating the rest of the NHL all season, and show no signs of relinquishing the #1 spot in the RCS NHL Power Ranking Averages. The entire top-three remains unchanged for another week, with the Bruins at #2 and Red Wings at #3. Soaring into the top-ten this week are the Capitals, who rose from 13th all the way up to 4th. Falling out of the top-ten this week were the Flames, who fell from 9th to 13th, and the Rangers, who dropped from 10th to 11th.
While the Caps moved up the rankings the most spots of any team, three teams fell five spots back. The Penguins dropped from 4th to 9th, the Wild from 12th to 17th, and Senators from 19th to 24th.
The rankings still have some large discrepancies between them. For example, the Capitals are ranked 3rd by SI, but 10th by Fox. Correspondingly, Yahoo ranks the Blackhawks 3rd, but TSN has them 10th. Then you have the Rangers, who are ranked 4th by Yahoo, and 14th by TSN. Between injuries and hot and cold streaks, these numbers are sure to continue to fluctuate throughout the year, all the way up until playoff time.
*AOL has yet to release its rankings this week.
