Jeremy Grey: Erroneous! Erroneous! Erroneous on both counts!
While Jeremy Grey’s wildly underrated outburst was directed toward the inventor of the art of “wedding crashing,” it could just as easily be applied to the claims and predictions made by sports columnists in 2008.
Sports columnists are paid to give you their opinions. They have their finger on the pulse of the sports world and often serve as the go-to source for reaction to the latest draft pick or quarterback benching. Essentially, it is their job to make bold statements and even bolder predictions. But no matter how much they know about sports, or how much reporting they do, sports columnists can’t always be right. And today, we hold them accountable with the Top 10 Erroneous Columns of 2008.
Thinking the Cowboys would actually be better off when Tony Romo broke his pinkie? Saying the Falcons “blew it” by drafting Matt Ryan? The Tampa Bay Rays won’t even make the playoffs? Believe it or not, those predictions were printed and published this year. Perhaps more amazing – they don’t even come close to our most Erroneous Column of 2008.
