The RCS NHL Power Ranking Averages combine seven* other sites' power rankings to make the most balanced and unbiased grade possible, and to offer the most accurate look at the state of the NHL on a weekly basis.
The Sharks remain the #1 team in the RCS NHL Power Ranking Averages this week. Not surprisingly, with no teams playing for half the week due to the All-Star Game break, the rankings don't see great movement this week.
While there is not a lot of change in teams’ rankings, there is plenty of disagreement as to where each team should be ranked. An amazing 13 out of 30 teams have a range of at least six spots when comparing the rankings from each individual site. Two teams have a range of 10 ranking spots, with the Panthers ranked as high as 12th by TSN and as low as 22nd by ESPN; and the Canucks ranked as high as 11th by TSN and as low as 21st by SI. It's particularly confusing for the Canucks to be ranked as high as 11th by anyone, as they currently sit in 10th place in the Western Conference and are 2-4-4 in their last 10 games. The reason for the wide variety in NHL rankings is simply unknown and unexplainable.
The Eastern Conference appears to be the stronger conference at the moment, with eight of the top 11 ranked teams. Of course, when there are eight teams ranked that high, there are bound to be teams on the other end of the spectrum, as the East has five of the bottom six ranked teams as well.
*Yahoo! did not have rankings for this week and AOL's weekly rankings were not available at the time of publication.
