Legendary Philadelphia Phillies announcer Harry Kalas died today in Washington DC, preparing to announce the Phillies game against the Nationals today at 3 p.m. Kalas had been the Phillies announcer since 1971. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2002 as the recipient of the Ford C. Frick Award. In addition Kalas was the voice of NFL Films and featured in Showtime's Inside the NFL.
The Phillies were told at 1:20 p.m. today and were stunned to hear the news.
Harry Kalas was one of the most beloved people in baseball and will be sorely missed.
