Mark Cuban Apologizes To Kenyon Martin's Family

After Sunday afternoon's controversial ending in the Nuggets-Mavericks game, Dallas kinda lost their minds over the non-call for a bit, led by their combustible owner, Mark Cuban. On Monday, we learned that Cuban did not save his criticism for just the referees, at one point yelling at Kenyon Martin's mother, saying that her son was a "punk" and a "thug" (and on Mother's Day!)

As you might imagine, Kenyon was none too pleased about someone yelling things at his mom, and said he'd take care of Cuban himself: "It's a little personal, and I'm going to take care of it," Martin said. "I'm not going to do the whole media thing, back and forth. That's his thing. I'm more of a face-to-face type of dude."

Well, late last night, after the technical foul-filled Game 4, a game the Mavs won to prolong their season for at least two more nights, Cuban issued an apology to Martin and his family (in his blog, of course).

So at this point I would like to apologize to you and your mom KMart for my comment. I should have not said anything and I was wrong. Hopefully you will accept the apology and we can move on.

When the series comes back to Dallas, your family, and the family of other Nuggets players are welcome to stay in my suite, with my family. Its amazing how tempers mellow when real people talk to each other and realize that its still just a game.

If that isn’t acceptable, I’m happy to provide a suite, free of charge to them as well and place whatever security is needed to make them feel comfortable.

We tried to have enough additional security for them tonight as well, but I know your family and friends didn’t feel as comfortable as they should. I apologize for that as well. This arena is my responsibility, we could and should do a better job.

So if we can put this behind us, I will make sure when the series comes back to Dallas, your family and friends, and that of your teammates are very comfortable at our Arena.

Then I hope we both take the advice of your coach and can get together this summer. Dinner for you and your family is on me.

It's refreshing to see someone involved in sports - and someone so important to their sport - offer a sincere apology with no qualifiers or excuses (though, it was a bit odd that he chose the apology to seemingly guarantee a Mavs victory, multiple times). It's sad that it is now considered noble when a sports figure gives a real admission of guilt, but I guess that's where we are.

Well done by Cuban, and as the billionaire said, hopefully we can all move on from this now.
