As good citizens of NatsTown, I think we need to get as many Natinals on the All-Star team as possible. This sounds like a plan only the internet could pull off. Although, I’m torn over this particular prank.
Specifically, Lastings Milledge is on the NL All-Star ballot. He needs to make the team. Nothing would be more NatsTown than having the Natinals' (lone?) All-Star game representative be a AAA player for whom the organization has no plan.
How can we make this happen?
On the one hand, it would be great to take a stand against the horrible rule that each team gets a representative. The All-Star Game should have the best possible talent regardless of what team they’re on. Choosing Lastings Milledge, a AAA player, is a great pick. But on the other hand, there is a good chance this wouldn’t end up being a stand against each team having a representative at all.
The Nationals have the worst record in baseball and are actually THREE games back of the second worst team in the National League. Through 25 games they’re already 12 games back of the NL-leading Dodgers, who they play tonight. The Nationals had jerseys misprinted that read “Natinals”. They were the last team to win a game. OK, kind of got off track there for a second. The point is, despite how bad they are playing, they have at least one legitimate All-Star: Third basemen Ryan Zimmerman, who has been outstanding. He has a hit streak of 24 consecutive games that dates back to the third game of the season and he leads all NL third basemen in hits, doubles, and RBI.
While having a AAA player make the All-Star would be amazing, I can’t get behind this campaign. I like my internet pranks to have a purpose, and unless Zimmerman’s stats tank in the next month, he’s going to be an All-Star and Milledge wouldn’t symbolize the flawed system that allows sub-par players to be considered “All-Stars.”
