The RCS NHL Power Ranking Averages combine seven other sites' power rankings to make the most balanced and unbiased grade possible, and to offer the most accurate look at the state of the NHL on a weekly basis.
The Sharks are on top of the RCS NHL Power Ranking Averages for the third consecutive week. Hot on their heels are the Blackhawks, who moved up from 7th to 2nd. Climbing the rankings the most are the Senators, all the way from 21st to 14th. Falling down the charts are the Rangers, who slipped from 13th to 21st.
As teams continue to shuffle positions in the RCS Averages, one things is abundantly clear: no two sites rank teams in the same manner. The range or rankings for some teams is staggering, ten teams have a range of 10 spots or more amongst the various ranking sites. The two biggest standouts are the Colorado Avalanche (RCS - 10th), who are ranked as high as 4th by FanHouse and as low as 22nd by Sports Illustrated. As staggering as that difference is, it is nothing compared to the Nashville Predators (RCS - 13th), who are ranked 2nd by Sports Illustrated and 23rd by Yahoo! SI admits that the Predators aren't the best team in hockey, but ranked them so high due to their recent play, calling them the hottest team in hockey.
With so much discrepancy it's hard to put much faith in any one site's rankings. Hope the RCS Power Ranking Averages can help continue to sculpt a balanced look at the state of the NHL on a weekly basis, taking multiple viewpoints into consideration.
