America's Fastest Professional Athlete

Fastest players.jpgWe need an event - a primetime event in which the best athletes from the major U.S. sports compete to see who is the fastest athlete. I'm sick of these athletes challenging each other and nothing coming to fruition. Own up like Chad Ochocinco did when he raced that horse. First there was Rajon Rondo who has been talking trash to Chris Johnson. Now it comes out that this past summer Tedd Ginn Jr. talked trash and then didn't show up to race Chris Johnson in Miami (more accurately it was probably Joey Porter that did the trash-talking for Ginn). Someone has to be able to put this race together so their speed can do their talking and not their mouths (or twitter feeds). It can be an annual event with a WWE-like belt. And the winner gets to hold it and wear it during the pregame for their sport for an entire year until they need to defend their title. So who would be the contestants? Let's choose two from each sport:

NFL
-Chris Johnson - Ran a 4.24 in the 40 at the combine.
-Ted Ginn Jr. - Ran a 4.31 in the 40 at his pro day.

NBA
-Rajon Rondo - Definitely one of the quickest guards in the NBA and he better be able to back it up with the amount of trash-talking he's been doing.
-Brandon Jennings - Many have called him the next Iverson. I'm not sure if that's an insult or not, but he's got the ankle-breaking speed of A.I.

MLB
-Jose Reyes - Was injured this past year but there might not be anyone who can fly around the bases as fast as Reyes.
-Carl Crawford - He might have slowed down a little in the past few years but during a three-year stretch from 2004-06 he had at least 15 triples and 45 stolen bases each year.

NHL?
Yeah I have no clue. I'd imagine they train too much on skates to be able to come close to beating any of these guys in a foot race.

There are other guys who might be faster but in order to make this a big event, you've got to have big names.

Then, the winner gets to face Usain Bolt who would put any one of these guys to shame. Now that would be entertaining.
