If You Can't Beat 'Em, Lose to All Of 'Em

Nets are really bad.jpgOn Tuesday, we did a Top 10 on the Worst Streaks in Sports since the Nets were on the verge of setting the NBA record for worst start to a season (which they did Wednesday). We mentioned how winning streaks garner a lot of attention but there's also a morbid curiosity to losing streaks. They can almost be just as fun to watch as winning streaks (especially if it's not your team losing). While that was all anecdotal, Darren Rovell of Sports Biz brings us some factual data supporting that claim

In the last five games, ratings are up 22 percent and the network says key demographics are up triple digits as compared to the first 13 games played. ... Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban just posted this on his Facebook page: "Everywhere I went in NYC, EVERYONE wanted to talk about the Nets. "The LStreak" could pay off in the long run for the team."

You know that the 22 percent is all hipsters, watching the games for irony. They don't even understand the sport, but when they realized the goal is to win, and the Nets are doing everything they can to lose, they had a kindred spirit. Once the Nets win a game, they'll become completely disillusioned and have to throw away their ironically small Jianlian jersey.

The streak could end very soon, since their next five opponents are all under .500.
