Top of NFL Power Ranking Remain Unchanged

nfl week 8 2010.jpg

The top three remain unchanged in this week's RCS NFL Power Ranking Averages with the Jets narrowly edging out the Steelers for the top spot. In fact, the Jets and Steelers received the same ranking as last week from all nine of the sites used to compile the RCS Averages. At the bottom of the rankings the Bills are slowly attempting to crawl out of last place, only earning seven of nine last place votes; the other two went to the 49ers and Broncos.

Week to week movement has died down throughout the rankings as only two teams moved five spots or more in either direction. The Eagles dropped five spots, from 8th to 13th, and the Bears dropped down six spots from 12th to 18th.

While teams are not moving much in the overall RCS Averages, the various rankings for some teams are still fairly divergent. The teams with the highest difference between their top and bottom ranking are the Packers, who are ranked 8th by Sporting News and 18th by FanHouse; and the Cowboys who are ranked 18th by Sporting News and 29th by FanHouse.

Divisional Average Rankings:
1. AFC South - 11.14
2. AFC East - 12.83
3. AFC North - 13.89
4. NFC East - 14.36
5. NFC South - 16.00
6. NFC North - 19.50
7. AFC West - 21.42
8. NFC West - 22.86

Overall the AFC is asserting its dominance with the top six teams overall, it also has the top three ranked divisions. The AFC South remains the top ranked division, and is the only division to have three teams in the top ten. In the weaker NFC, the NFC East has seemingly established itself as the top division. Both western divisions are firmly planted at the bottom.

Rankings from CBS, ESPN, FanHouse, Fox, NFL.com, Pro Football Talk, SB Nation, Sporting News, and USA Today
