The impressive resume of the Tigers has finally lifted LSU to the top spot in the NCAA football ranking averages, with Alabama and Oklahoma falling in at second and third respectively.

The biggest climbers of the week were Arizona State and Clemson. The Sun Devils moved from 34th to 24th after beating USC and the Tigers moved from 21st to 13th after topping FSU. Correspondingly the Trojans and Seminoles dropped the most spots of any teams in the rankings, with USC falling from 19th to 32nd and FSU dropping from 14th to 25th. Miami and Missouri both took quite the tumble as well, falling out of the top 40 entirely after being ranked 27th and 30th last week.

Again the computer rankings differ the most between the four polling components. There are three teams the computers ranking considerably below where any of the other polls do. Michigan State is ranked from 25th-28th by the other polls, and 38th by the computers. Similarly Houston (26th-27th from polls, 42nd by computers) and Iowa State (27th-30th from polls, 39th by computers) are ranked far lower by the computer than any other ranking method.

But the most egregious difference seen when comparing the computers to the human polls is for Notre Dame. Notre Dame comes in 37th in the AP Poll, 42nd in the BlogPoll, and isn't even ranked in the Coaches Poll, but the computers have the Irish all the way up at 23rd somehow.

This is not to say the computers are the only system that has differences from the others. The AP ranks Auburn high (28th compared to 35th-38th) and doesn't rank Texas Tech or UNC at all while all other rankings have them in the thirties.
