NCAA Poll Averages - Week 14
Not surprisingly the NCAA Football Poll Averages come out looking pretty similar to the BCS rankings, at least at the top as the first six teams are the same. Also, not a lot of big shakeups from last week at the top of the rankings, as the top 10 shuffled but are still composed of the same ten teams as a week ago (in fact the top 22 are all the same teams as last week's top 22).
Rutgers took the biggest tumble this week, dropping out of the rankings from 29th last week. Also falling were Virginia and Tulsa, who slipped from a tie for 26th down to 34th and 35th respectively. The big risers of the week were Texas and Florida State, who jumped up from a tie for 34th to 24th and 25th respectively.
With a whole season of data to work with the computer rankings make the least amount of sense they've made all year this week. This is most obvious when looking at Texas A&M. The Aggies are unranked in the other three polls, but still come in at 36th because the computers have them ranked up at 25th despite a 6-6 record and losing four of their last five games. The computer also appear to hate Virginia Tech, ranking them 11th while the other polls rank them 3rd or 5th. While hating Tech the machines love Oklahoma, ranking them 5th compared to 10th-13th in the other ranking systems. The lesson, as always, is never trust a machine.
