Redlegs Rundown

Long time between drinks

It had to happen sometime, didn't it?  Justin Lehr provided the "miracle" as Dusty Baker so eloquently put it.  A 4-hit complete game shutout of the Cubbies.  A 2-run HR from newly-acquired 3B Scott Rolen and the Reds FINALLY end their what seemed like season-long losing streak.

Now...let me play negative Nancy, Debbie Downer, or whatever you call a person raining on a parade.   Justin Lehr is NOT the next ace of the Reds.  I know I know he just threw a great game.  But the "kid" is 32-years-old.  He's not a prospect.  Nice story?  Absolutely.  Candidate for the rotation next year?  Possibly especially since Volquez is out and Homer continues to be Homer.  But, he is in no way a lock for the rotation, nor is he a long-term solution in my opinion.

Read the back of his baseball card.  Here I did it for you...5-3, 4.82 ERA in five seasons.  He hasn't been in the majors since 2006.  So again, before you go thinking he's a prospect, realize that he's probably on the back end of his career.

Having said all of that, it was a masterful performance last night.  I'm sure the bullpen was thrilled to get the night off.  Combine that with today's off day and they'll be well-rested for the difficult weekend series at San Francisco.

btw...good luck scoring off Lincecum and Cain in the first two games, Reds.  YIKES!!!

Anyway, happy Thursday to one and all Reds fans.  At least for one day we can all celebrate a Reds win.  It might not come again for another week or so.  The team goes to St. Louis after S.F.....good lord.
