Rockies minor league report: May 3

Fresno 14, Colorado Springs 4

With Greg Smith, Jhoulys Chacin, and Esmil Rogers in the majors, the Sky Sox (13-11, 0 GB) rotation is pretty depleted right now.  Kurt Birkins (0-1) was the starter Monday night, and he gave up six runs on six hits and two walks in just three innings of work.  The bullpen did nothing to stop the bleeding; Fresno right fielder Joe Borchard hit for the cycle.  Matt Miller had a 3-for-3 night, with a double and an RBI.  Chaz Roe (1-3, 4.94) will pitch tonight in the second game of the four-game series.

Sky Sox Top Three: Miller, Omar Quintanilla (2-for-4, 2 2B, RBI), Jonathan Herrera (2-for-3, 2 BB)

Springfield 7, Tulsa 0

It's becoming a common theme in these parts that the Drillers (9-15, 6.5 GB) have a terrible offense, and when the pitching isn't any good, either, they have no chance.  The Drillers managed just five hits, getting thoroughly dominated by Springfield starter Scott Gorgen, while Bruce Billings (1-3) was ineffective, lasting just four innings and giving up six hits and four walks, striking out none.  Daniel Mayora and Radames Nazario each had a double, providing what little pop Tulsa got.  Keith Weiser (1-2, 3.47) gets the ball tonight in the opener of a three-game series against Arkansas.

Drillers Top Three: Mayora (1-for-3), Nazario (1-for-3), Sean Jarrett (2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K)

Modesto (14-8, 0.5 GB): Night off

The Nuts return to action tonight, with Kenny Durst (2-0, 3.29) getting the start in the opener of a three-game series against Rancho Cucamonga.

Hickory 6, Asheville 1

The Tourists (9-15, 7 GB) couldn't get much going against Hickory starter Neil Ramirez, who struck out nine in six innings.  Starter Nick Schnaitmann (2-3) took the loss, allowing five runs over six innings.  Joe Sanders had a 3-for-4 night and stole a base, while Avery Barnes drove in the Tourists' only run of the game.  Juan Gonzalez (1-0, 3.79) gets the ball tonight as the Tourists continue the four-game series at Hickory.

Tourists Top Three: Sanders, Barnes (1-for-4, RBI), Nathan Hines (1-for-3, R)
