So Far, As Suggested, Countries With a Tradition of Racist Fans Have Underperformed at the Cup

Before the Cup began, we wrote a piece suggesting that nations with a history of racist fans could well underperform at the first African World Cup, and we specifically mentioned Spain, Italy, Slovakia, and Serbia. So far, here is how those teams were predicted to do in their first matches and how they've actually done:

Predicted result for matches so far: 5-2
Actual result for matches so far: 1-3-3

Furthermore, Africa's one victory in this tournament so far has been Ghana over Serbia.

Perhaps this is simply part of the greater trend of European teams not doing as well as expected. Or, maybe not.
