Instant Semifinal Review: Holland Holds On

SCORE:  Netherlands 3, Uruguay 2

THE STORY LINE: A casually careless game, really. Not a semifinal for the ages. But Holland is there.

TURNING POINT: Two goals for the Dutch within four minutes midway through the second half, after midfielder Rafael Van der Vaart came in at halftime. To be honest, the second goal looked offside, courtesy of Robin Van Persie, and that was the one that broke it open.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Giovanni van Bronckhorst gets it for his wonder goal in the first half.

BIGGEST SURPRISE: The same surprise as in every game in which the Netherlands has been involved: How does this team manage to look so mediocre yet win so comfortably?

BIGGEST NO-SHOW: Yes Uruguay missed striker Luiz Suarez. But it really missed defensive mainstay Diego Lugano.

KEY STAT: The Dutch tallied the most goals scored by one team in a semi-final since 1982.

WHAT IT MEANS:
The Dutch gain their third final and a possible chance to face off with traditional rival Germany. We'll also have an all-European final for the second Cup in a row.

IF THE GAME WERE A ROLLING STONES SONG IT WOULD BE: No Expectations
