Fuel Strategy win race for Kahne

Earlier today Matt Kenseth won the poll for Carquest Auto Parts 300 at Lowes Motorspeedway.  Jimmy Johnson said the he likes to run the Busch Series.

The early part of the race saw two cautions, one for debris and one for a crash by Reed Sorenson.  Cars pit on the second caution and Kurt Busch takes the lead by taking no tires.  This finally led to a long green flag run with Kurt Busch leading most of the lap until green flag pit stops occurred around lap 87.

During the pit stops NASCAR called Kurt Busch back down pit road for some lug nuts that were not on right.  This left Jimmy Johnson in the lead of the race by over 4 seconds.  Green flag racing continues until Carl Edwards spins out on lap 112.  That spin help put him one lap down.

Leaders pit and Kyle Busch leads the race at the drop of the green flag, but quickly looses to Jeff Burton. Lap 129 saw a David Ragan spin for the next caution of the night.

Lap 143 saw a Jimmy John spin.  The green flag drops and it was not long before the caution flew out again as Kurt Busch spins. Also spinning in this caution was Mike Bliss.  “I just got loose,” said Kurt.Busch.

Cars at the front of the field pit for fuel, but a couple cars do not pit to get track position.  At the drop of the green flag Greg Biffle is the leader, but quickly looses it to Kasey Kahne.

With 30 laps to go in the race Kasey Kahne is the leader of the race with Casey Mears in seconds.  With 20 laps to go the top two positions do not change at all.

Three more laps go by and Kyle Krisiloff smacks the wall hard brining out the caution again.  At this time Carl Edwards has moved into the 17th place position still one lap down.

At the drop of the green flag Kasey gets a great restart and cruises to the victory of the race.  His first Busch Series win of the season.

“We were good on the long run,” said Kasey Kahne.

“We were just a little to tight,” said Casey Mears.  He finished the race in second place.

Clint Bowyer who finished in third place said it was a struggle for him and that he his car was tight.

“We were never great,” said Jeff Burton who finished in fourth.  He said the one thing he learned for Sunday’s race was to get some sleep because it is going to be along race.

Carl Edwards who finished in 17th said it was so loose all night.

In points Kevin Harvick only gains 10 points on Carl Edwards for the lead in points.  Dave Blaney moves up to third in points still 592 points back of Carl.  David Reutimann who was third in points falls all the way back to fifth due to his last place finish.  David’s car was overheating ultra early on lap 2.  Earlier in the week his car received damage from J.J. Yeley.
