Robert Yates Racing has re-signed with Ford Racing. Through 2012, Yates drivers will remain in Fords.
The announcement comes just a few weeks after speculation of a possible Yates/DEI merge surfaced. The obvious bump in that road was the fact that Yates has been with Ford for what seems like forever and Teresa Earnhardt has made it abundantly clear that she will not part ways with Chevrolet. Still, Yates did not rule out the possibility that a merge with another team could come. As a matter of fact, he said it was likely.
Although the big announcement has to come as a major plus, RYR hasn't had much to cheer about lately. His drivers, Ricky Rudd and David Gilliland, are ranked 33rd and 34th and are 31st and 34th in points. With a couple more bad finishes, Gilliland's 38 car could drop out of the top 35 in owner points.
Kurt Busch was fastest in Nextel Cup first practice at Dover on Friday.
Mike Skinner won the pole for tonight's NCTS AAA Insurance 200.
Paul Menard may not return to DEI next year. John Menard, Paul's father, may bring his operation to Robby Gordon Racing. Menard and Gordon are long time business partners.
Mark Martin does not plan on returning to the #01 car next season. This will turn the ride over to Regan Smith full time. Sterling Marlin is also planning on cutting back to a limited schedule in 2008.
