Edwards back flips at Bristol....

The Sharpie 500 race at Bristol went big time unconventional for most of the race as long green flag runs ruled the race. Before the race started though it was trouble for John Andretti as his car stalled on the racetrack.  He went behind the wall on lap 6.

The first 125 laps of the race went caution free where only Kasey Kahne and Carl Edwards led the race.  Green flag pit stop started to occur on lap 123, but Johnny Sauter and his car slowed up big time to being out the first caution of the day.  Kasey barely missed the car of Johnny Sauter.  All the cars on the lead lap pit and Kasey kept the lead off pit road.  Early rockets at this point of time were Jeff Gordon, Dale Jr., and Denny Hamlin who started all the way back in 37th spot.

The green flag and we go green flag racing until lap 210 with Kasey being the only leader during this time.  The second caution came out for Denny Hamlin who started having car problems around lap 166 and then it finally gave up at lap 210.  "We knew it was coming," said Denny Hamlin.  Leaders pit and Kasey still leads the race

The first short green flag run occurs this time with green flag racing only lasting 5 laps.  The caution comes out on alp 225 as Jimmy Johnson hits Aric Almirola that also helps spin out A.J. Allmendinger.

After the green flag dropped it was back to a green flag run with Kasey leading every single lap again until lap 331 when Carl Edwards was finally able to get the lead of the race for one lap.  A few more laps go by and Carl gets the lead of the race for good with Dale Jr. in second.

At lap 355 rare green flag pit stops occur which finally let drivers such as Kyle Busch and Ryan Newman to lead a lap.  With almost all the cars on the lead lap pitting David Ragan spins out on lap 362.  That left Carl Edwards back in the lead of the race as Robby Gordon and Jimmy Johnson pit.

With 105 laps to go David Ragan brings out his second caution in a row as he spins out again.  With 79 laps to go he brings out the third caution in a row for another spin.  Carl Edwards is still in the lead of the race at this point of time with Kasey Kahne in second.

With 61 laps to go Robby Gordon spins out to bring out caution seven on the night.  Caution eight occurs with 48 laps to go as Martin Truex Jr. helps Ricky Rudd into the wall.  Getting collected in the wreck was Jimmy Johnson, Matt Kenseth, Jeff Gordon, and Juan Pablo Montoya.  "I just couldn't get it to stop," said Matt Kenseth.

The green flag drops with 38 laps to go with Carl Edwards in the lead and Kasey Kahne in second.  Only a couple laps go by and a debris caution comes out for the first time tonight.

The final 31 laps all belong to Carl Edwards as he busted out to an over 1 second plus lead to win the race.  It marks the first driver in a Ford to win a COT race.

"Biggest win of my career," said Carl Edwards.  "I don't know what to think."

Kasey Kahne stated that he could not get passed Edwards at the end of the race.  He also stated that Carl was a touch better in the corners at the end of the race.

"Pretty stoked about finishing fifth," said Dale Jr. "Enjoyed myself tonight."

In the race for the final spot in the chase Kurt Busch who finished in sixth leads Dale Jr. by 158 points.  In the chase for the top spot in points Jeff Gordon leads new second place driver Tony Stewart by 349 points.
