... because it looks like he might be the front runner to drive Kyle Petty's #45 Dodge this weekend at Michigan.
Kyle broke his hand at Watkins Glen this past weekend while hitting a door inside the No. 45 hauler after a Lap 69 incident in Sunday's race. Temper, temper, there Kyle!
Why would Sterling Marlin be a good choice? Well first of all he is out of a job as a result of the DEI/Ginn merger and secondly Kyle thinks very highly of Sterling. After Sterling lost his ride Kyle had this to say, "To let someone like Sterling go is a crying shame, I'll say that right now. I only wish that (Ginn) had let him go 5 or 6 races ago and I would have let him drive my car while I was doing the Turner stuff, that's how much I think about Sterling".
Sterling still has the desire to get behind the wheel of a competitive car too, "Yeah, I still want to run, still want to finish this year out and thought I was going to finish this year out but it wasn't to be".
Could these two get together the near future? I think it likely, especially if Kyle can't handle the car properly with his broken hand. Also, John Andretti, who filled in for Kyle while he did the TV thing, has signed on with the 49 car of BAM for the rest of the season, and Joe Nemechek, who was also released by Ginn Racing, has landed a ride for this weekend that might lead to future rides. Based on the elemination of these two drivers, Sterling is lookinb better and better, isn't he?
Stay tuned for the results of this one folks.
