Happy Hour notes

  • Coming off of a disheartening week last week at Montreal, Robby Gordon ran the fastest lap of the session, getting around Watkins Glen in 71.335 seconds. Jamie McMurray ran second quickest at a 72.364.
  • Bill Elliott is Boris Said's new best friend. Elliott stepped out of his number 21 Air Force Ford to let Said, who missed the race because qualifying was rained out, into the race. "I guess that's why they call him awesome," he said. "Nobody else would have done this for me but Bill." Said's fast lap was good for 9th quickest.
  • The undefeated king of the road in 2007, Juan Pablo Montoya ran 6th quickest.
  • Dale Earnhardt Jr. is not happy with his car. "We just couldn't get the car right. I dunno, man. It doesn't look good for us this week." His fastest lap was only good for 28th on the charts.
  • Jimmie Johnson posted the 10th fastest lap. "We made good progress in today's practice but we're still a little bit off. We worked on it a bunch today and got it a lot closer. Some of those guys are a little too quick but I think we can get another top 5 tomorrow. Being smart is definitely going to be the key."
