Gordon wins again.

In the final night race for the Nextel Series the cars came to Lowe’s Motor Speedway for the Bank Of America 500.  Ryan Newman won the poll for the event.

Tony Stewart said that he thinks that his car will be good in the end.

During most of the first half of the race the top three drivers in the chase Jimmy Johnson, Jeff Gordon, and Clint Bowyer had spots in the top ten.  Dale Jr. was riding on the top of the racetrack and picking off positions. Chaser Kevin Harvick would up with tire problems and pitted twice under green to fix his problem.

Cars bringing out the caution flag in the first half included David Reutimann, Reed Sorenson, Robby Gordon, David Ragan, and Tony Raines and Chaser Matt Kenseth.

After the lap 175 caution for an Elliott Sadler spins cars pitted.  Chaser Tony Stewart had a quick stop and then wound up hitting into Paul Menard and then spinning Kasey Kahne on pit road. After a lap 189 caution for Bill Elliott Chaser Kurt Busch who had a quick pit stop got damage after getting cut off from Mark Martin trying to get into his pit stall.

At lap 206 Michael Waltrip spins out which helps collect John Andretti and Matt Kenseth.  Lap 230 saw Jimmy Johnson spin out and get minimal damage.

With 61 laps to go Jeff Gordon passes Clint Bowyer for the lead of the race and Kurt Busch is complaining the car is going down a cylinder.

With 56 laps left Juan Pablo Montoya crashes taking out Scott Riggs with him.  Leaders pit and Kyle Busch won the race off pit road.  At the drop of the green flag it was not long and Jeff Gordon was back in the lead of the race again.

With 35 laps left it is Jeff Gordon leading Clint Bowyer by around 3.75 seconds.  Around 33 laps left and Jimmy Johnson has climbed back all the way to 10th.

With 26 laps left Clint Bowyer and Kyle Busch fought over second place.  Kyle Busch won the war and second place.  With 15 laps left Jeff was leaking Kyle by around 3.75 seconds.

With 13 laps to go Gordon and his lead goes to junk as Johnny Sauter spins out.  This caution brought out the red flag that lasted around 16 minutes in order to clean up oil on the racetrack.

With five laps to go the green flag dropped and Ryan Newman shot out like a rocket into the lead of race and then with three laps to go he spins out.  Jeff Gordon is complaining over radio that he is running out of fuel.  This caution brought out the green/white checker.  Gordon though got a good restart and had enough fuel to win the race.

“Had an awesome racecar,” said Jeff Gordon.  He stated again that his car was running out of gas

Bowyer stated that this was not his best racetrack and that he did not get down fast enough on the restart.  He finished in second.

Jeff Gordon was able to finally get a small lead.  He leads Jimmy Johnson by 68 points and Clint Bowyer by 78.
