2008 Sprint Cup Pre Season Predictions.....

2008 Champion: Jeff Gordon, Kevin Harvick, or Carl Edwards

2008 Rookie Of The Year: Sam Hornish Jr. or Dario Franchitti

I predict that Kentucky Speedway will get a Sprint Cup Race date for 2009. A Bruton Smith owned track looses a race date.

I will also predict that a new city will give the okay to build a new Sprint Cup track.

In bold letters are car number, then the driver, model of car and finally the owner of the car.

I’m starting out with the rookie drivers:

01—Regan Smith—Chevrolet—DEI

Going for a full season this year after having only seven starts last year. Not going to be a blow out year for him. Should have a nothing special year I think he finishes 30-35th place in the points.

10—Patrick Carpentier—Dodge—Gillett Evernham Motorsports

Patrick was in this car three times last year while Scott Riggs made 27 starts in the car in 2007. The car wound up with only one top ten finish. This car is going to struggle a bit and make around 30 races. I think it can pull only a couple top ten finishes. A 36-39th place in the points for him.

27—Jacques Villenueve—Toyota—Bill Davis Racing

This was the number 36 car in 2007 and struggled big time to make races with Jeremy Mayfield as the driver. Jacques made only two starts for Bill Davis Racing in 2007 with a best finish of 21st spot. He is going to struggle a bit to make races in 2008. A couple of top ten finishes at best for him. A 34th to 39th place in the points for him.

40—Dario Franchitti—Dodge—Chip Gnassi

Last year David Stremme drove this car. The car had two top ten finishes and rotted around 23-25th place in the points for the final half of the year. Dario comes in from the IRL where he won the IRL championship in 2007 and the rain shortened 2007 Indy 500. I think this car is not really going to do any worse or better than it did in 2007. No more than three top ten finishes and it will finish 22-26th place in the points. A solid Rookie Of The Year contender.

77—Sam Hornish Jr.—Dodge—Penske Racing

Sam qualified for two races in 2007 where his best finish was 30th. He also did a full season of IRL action where he finished in fifth place. I think he will have a successful season in 2008. Sam will get 3-5 top ten finishes. 20-25th place in the points at the end of the year. A solid Rookie Of The Year contender.

By the end of the month I should have all Sprint Cup drivers previewed.
