Auto Club 500 race recap so far....

Rain that plagued the racetrack all weekend long caused an over two-hour delay to the start of the Auto Club 500. Jimmy Johnson won the poll to the race as NASCAR went to final 2007 owner point standings to fill the field.

The start of the first laps went even longer as the wiggans clamp came off the car of Michael Waltrip spewing oil on the race track.

When the race finally started Jeff Gordon rocketed out to a couple second lead.  At lap 11 Matt Kenseth came in to remove some debris off his car due to an overheating problem.  Then at lap 14 Denny Hamlin hits the wall and brings out the first caution.  “I think there are 42 other drivers out there who would agree; we should not be racing on that racetrack right now. I hit a slick spot and the car just took off,” said Denny Hamlin.

After the green flag dropped the next caution occurred on lap 21 which brought out a 70-minute red flag.  This one was caused as Casey Mears spins out and then hitting into Dale Earnhardt Jr.  Behind him Reed Sorenson gets hit into by Sam Hornish Jr.. Sam winds up with his hood getting bent up big time and then rams into Casey flipping him over.  Fire then occurs on the Sam Hornish Jr. car.

Casey said he got loose getting into turn one.  Hornish stated that he hit the back of Reed Sorenson.  “Track ain’t ready today.  The track's dirty, and this was a bad move,” said Dale Jr.. He also said that guys are sliding all over the place.

During this red flag they spent a lot of time trying to dry the weepers as best as possible. When the cars restarted Dale Jarrett had a real hot car.

At the drop of the green flag Jeff Gordon quickly got back into the lead of the race. The next caution was for rain at lap 39. The green flag dropped again at lap 48, but only went for 8 laps and then Jeremy Mayfield blew a tire and spread car parts all over the place. The next caution came out on lap 63 for a Joe Nemechek spin.

After the green flag dropped it did not last long again as Elliott Sadler spins out on lap 70. This time after all the cars came in for tires Jeff Gordon was back in the field around sixth place. Green Flag racing then occurs until lap 82 when more rain falls putting this race under the second red flag of the night.

More sometime after they go back to racing, if they do.....
