Qualifying for the race on Sunday took a lot longer today as rain stopped qualifying for over one hour. As the rain fell Reed Sorenson was on the poll with only 24 cars qualified. After the rain stopped qualified continued and Patrick Carpentier with a speed of 129.77 MPH wins the poll. He becomes only the second non-US driver to win the poll. Sitting along side of him is going to Bobby Labonte.
Captain Thunder website says that Chevrolet has worked out a deal with Joe Gibbs Racing in order to get him out of his contract one year early. This link also says that Tony will go to HAAS CNC racing with Office Depot as a sponsor. Ryan Newman will join him with Burger King as a sponsor.
At the end of the NASCAR season Casey Mears is not going to be driving in the #5 car for Rick Hendrick. No replacement driver for next season has been named yet, but Tony Stewart says that he is interested in driving the #5 car.
