Carl Edwards makes it more interesting after Phoenix

Clint Bowyer looked to stay out of trouble as he started 12th for the Hefty Odor Block 200.  Carl Edwards starting in second place was looking to cut into his 91 point deficit to the points leader Clint Bowyer..

"Worked hard on race trim," said Clint Bowyer.  "Seemed real fast in practice," said Carl Edwards.  Mike Bliss said that his car was real good yesterday while Kyle Busch said that his was not worthy of winning today.

At the drop of the green flag Carl Edwards lost a couple of spots while Clint Bowyer moved up a few before the first caution came out for debris on lap 23.

David Reutimann brought out the caution on lap 39 as he hits the wall and blows out a tire.  The green flag drops and green flag racing did not last long and Justin Allgaier and Brian Ickler get together.

John Wes Townley crashed to bring out the next caution.  Leader Denny Hamlin wound up pitting twice to get the proper tires on.  A.J. Allmendinger stayed out to lead the race.  He quickly lost the lead at the drop of the green flag to Kevin Harvick.

At lap 75 Brian Ickler crashes which led to two more quickie caution.  The green flag barely drops on lap 79 and the caution came out for A.J. Allmendinger, Marc Davis, Steven Wallace, and the points leader Clint Bowyer who wound up crashing due to bad restart.  Bowyer wound up with a badly damaged hood.  The green flag dropped on lap 85 and the same thing occurred again and David Stremme and Jose Wise get together.  It took almost a lap to get the caution out this time.  Kevin Harvick was the leader of the race throughout this mess.

This time it was a clean restart and Clint Bowyer and his damaged car was able to move up through the field.  At the halfway point it was Kevin Harvick in the lead with Carl Edwards in second.

At lap 123 it was Scott Wimmer who had tire problems, at the caution it was Clint Bowyer up to 12th.

The leaders pit and Carl Edwards was able to get the lead of the race while Clint Bowyer came out in ninth.  After the green flag dropped it took around 15 laps and then Clint Bowyer started to move up the field again.

With 40 laps left Carl Edwards was in the lead of the race with Kevin Harvick in second and Clint Bowyer in seventh.  Five more laps go by and Clint was in sixth, then by lap 28th he was up to fifth.  With six laps left the next caution comes out as Marcos Ambrose crashes.

Some of the cars on the lead lap come in for tires and fuel including Clint Bowyer who came out in seventh.  This brought out the green/white checker finish.  Bowyer was able to move up three spots to fourth.  Joey Logano spun out on the final lap, but did not bring out the caution.  Denny Hamlin was able to move up to second and almost was able to get the win.

"We closing on Clint," said Carl.  He also thanked his pit crew.

"It just got really tight," said Clint Bowyer.  "We dodged a bullet though."

After the race ended Clint Bowyer left Phoenix with a 56 point lead over Carl Edwards with only one race left.
