The Pit Stop

It will be a sad day when we see Petty Enterprises merge....

with another team.  Will this happen before the start of next season, I do not know.  The company is hurting big time though.  NASCAR has known the Petty Enterprises organization for over 50 years

A team that was so dominate in the 70's and 80's has now gone without a win for eight year plus.  It is even a rarity for them to even get a top five finish.

With the economy in the bad shape it is in sponsorship dollars now are at a major premium and even the #43 car does not have a full year of sponsorship yet.  The Richard Petty part of the company just does not bring in the money like it used to.

In 2008 they teamed up with Boston Ventures to get more money, but even that has not fully worked out.

Kyle Petty who was a long time driver for the company is now gone to possibly do Grand-Am racing next year and a merged company may not even have much work for Richard Petty.

I hope NASCAR would hire Richard to be an ambassador/spokesperson for the sport.  He is a legend of the sport that could help grow the sport again when the economy gets better.

Sure racing teams come and go like Chip Gannassi and Ginn Racing, but this will be the worst one of them all.
