First look at Sprint Cup Series Drivers.....

Note:  With the way the economy is now sponsors I list for drivers can change big time and other info as well.

00--David Reutimann--Michael Waltrip Racing

Moves over from the 44 car in 2008 where it picked up 4 top tens and finished 22nd in the points.  Aarons rental company is going to sponsor the car for half a season and other companies will fill in the rest.  I think he has a slight improvement from last season.  I say he gets 5-6 top tens and finishes 17-19th place in the points.

07--Casey Mears--Richard Childress

Casey moves over to the car that Clint Bowyer had in 2008.  Casey finished the 2008 season with 8 top tens and finished 20th in the points.  Jack Daniel's will be the main sponsor for this car.  I do not think he is going to improve much in the points in 2009.  He will rack 7-10 top ten finishes and finishes 13-15th place in the points.

1--Martin Truex Jr.--Earnhardt Ganassi Racing

Martin had 11 top tens with no wins in 2008 and finished 15th place in the points.  At this time Bass Pro Shops is the main sponsor for this team.  I say he will be a bright spot for this team in 2009 and make the chase.  He will get 13-15 top tens and finish 9-12th place in the points.  He will get one win.

2--Kurt Busch--Penske Racing

Kurt picked off one win in 2008 with ten top ten places finishes on his way to 18th place in the points.  Miller Lite returns as the sponsor for this team.  I say he gets one win in 2009 while getting another 10 top ten finishes.  He will finish somewhere in the 14-18th place in the points.

5--Mark Martin--Rick Hendrick

Mark Martin is back to a full time driver in 2009 in the car that Casey Mears had in 2008.  Mark had only 24 starts in 2008, but had 11 top ten place finishes.  Kellogg's and Cheez-it will be back as sponsors for this car.  I do not see a win for him in 2009, but I think he will make the chase and finish 3-5th place in the points.  He will get 17-22 top ten finishes.

6--David Ragan--Roush Fenway Racing

Wound up with 14 top tens last season and had a legit shot to make the chase in only his second season of racing.  UPS has been picked up as the sponsor this year.  He is going to have another quality season. I say he picks up his first Sprint Cup win in 2009 and makes the chase. Hw will get 15-20 top ten finishes and finish 9-12th place in the points.

7--Robby Gordon--Robby Gordon Motorsports

This year he is going to be driving a Toyota car in 2009.  For the 2008 season he only had 3 top tens.  Jim Bean will be back as one of his sponsors this year.  He will not complete a full season in 2009, but get at least 30 starts.  No more than three top tens and no better than 30th place in the points for him.

8--Aric Almirola--Earnhardt Ganassi Racing

He is going to be the full time driver for this car in 2009, but needs sponsorship.  He has 12 starts in this car for the 2008 season racking up one top ten finish.  This was a split ride in 2008 with Mark Martin.  Aric will only get 7-12 top tens in the 2009 season and will finish 15-20th place in the points.

9--Kasey Kahne--Gillett Evernham Motorsports

He will be back for a full 2009 season with Budweiser as a sponsor.  For the 2008 season he picked up two wins and a victory in the All-Star event.  He finished 14th place in the points with fourteen top tens.  I say he become a bit of a bright spot for the team this year. He gets a couple of wins and makes the chase this time.  He will also get 15-18 top tens and finish 9-12th place in the points.

11--Denny Hamlin--Joe Gibbs Racing

Denny picked up one win in 2008 with 18 top tens onto a 8th place finish in the chase.  FedEx will return as the sponsor for this team.  I think this team is going to struggle a bit this year.  He will pick another win or two and around 15 top ten place finishes, but finish 13-15th place in the points.

Note:  Next week I will have up my second list of driver previews.
