Final look at 2009 Sprint Cup Drivers...

This a final look at the Sprint Cup divers right before the start of the first race of the year.  The first for car numbers though could wind up going the whole season.

09--Brad Keselowski, Sterling Marlin, Mike Bliss, Ken Schrader--Phoenix Racing

Brad is going to get this car for 10 races with Miccosukee Indian Gaming as a sponsor.  Brad only had two Sprint Cup starts in 2008 with no top tens.  Sterling Marlin had 9 starts last year with no top tens.  Mike Bliss had only one start with no top tens.  Ken Schrader had 15 starts with no top tens.  They say they want to race a full season, but the other drivers have no sponsorship yet.  Phoenix Racing had nine Sprint Cup starts in  2008 with a best finish of 25th.  I say brad gives them a couple of top 20 finishes, but the rest of the drivers do nothing special in the car at all.

41-Jeremy Mayfield--Mayfield Motorsports

This is brand new team formed with Jeremy Mayfield that will have All-Sport energy drink as a sponsor.  Jeremy expects to go a full season.  He was in eight races in 2008 with no top tens.  I do not expect much out of this team.  I will give a him 5-7 top twenty place finishes and a 25-30th place finish in the points if he goes a full season.

64--Todd Bodine, Geoff Bodine, Larry Gunselman--Gunselman Motrosports

This is a new team formed this year that is going to attempt the whole season.  No sponsors yet have been named for this team.  I say this car gets no more than 18 races in 2009.  Todd Bodine finished a full season in the truck series with a third place finish in the points and 17 top tens. Geoff has not raced in any of the top three series since 2005.  Larry had 17 Nationwide Series starts in 2008 with no top tens.  I do not think they even complete a full season.

66--Dave Blaney, Terry Labonte--Prism Motorsports

Terry so far is going only run Dayaton while Dave Blaney is supposed to run the rest of the year.  Dave finished 30th in the points with only 2 top tens. Terry will get in at Daytona, but no top 20 for him.  I do not think the car even gets in a half a season.

02--NA--Joe Gibbs Racing

This is a part time team only coming out three times in 2009 with Farm Bureau Insurance as the sponsor. Late season races for this team.  No drivers have been announced yet, but I do not think this car will get a top 20 finish.

08--James Hylton--E&M Motorsports

After running the Daytona 500 he will be done for the season.  He has been attempting to qualify in the race in the past few years.  No sponsor yet for this car.  I do not give him a great chance now he will even get in the race.  No top 20 even if he does.

15--Marc Davis--Marc Davis Motorsports

Marc is going to drive around six races. BOB-CAT and Howard University are going to be sponsors.  I say he is a surprise in this car and gets at least one top 20 finish.

44--A.J. Allmendinger-- Gillett Evernham Motorsports

This car was the #10 car in 2008.  It has sponsorship of some kind to run 9 points races along with the Budweiser Shootout.  I do not think he will pull in a full season, but will get 3-5 top twenty finishes in less than 18 races this year.  Has a legit shot one win though.

13--Max Papis--Germain Racing

Max started two road course races in 2008 and his best finish was 35th in the first one. Geico is going to sponsor this car for 18 races.  Germain Racing mainly does truck Series racing, but also fielded on Nationwide Series car in 2008.  I say this team does pull out a couple of top 20 finishes in this car.

21--Bill Elliott--Wood Brother Racing

The 21 car did not do a full season last year and was in 28 races mostly with Bill Elliott as the driver.  It did pick up one top five though with Marcos Ambrose as the driver.  Bill Elliott had 20 starts last year with no top tens.  Motorcraft could be a sponsor for this team in the 12 races they will run.  No top 20 place finishes for this car.

25--Brad Keselowski--Hendrick Motor Sports

Brad will return in this car for seven races with sponsorship from GoDaddy.com.  He had two starts in this car last year with a best finish of 19.  I say he pulls in only three top 20's in his seven races.

28--Travis Kvapil--Yates Racing

This is a team that needs sponsorship.  Travis though finishes 23rd in the points in 2008 with four top tens while also driving sponsor less for part of the season. I say this car completes most of season, but get 5-7 top ten place finishes in 2009.  Golden Corral is the sponsor for this car at Daytona. A 27-30th place finish in the points at the end of the year.

38--David Gilliland--Yates Racing

This is another car that needs sponsorship and the owner points from this team have been stripped for Paul Menard.  Raced a full year with partial sponsorship and at times with no sponsorship.  Had only two top tens in 2008.  David will not be in a full season in this car and no more than 10 races if he is lucky.

34--John Andretti--Earnhardt Ganassi Racing

This car will have John Andretti in at least for Daytona. The car number moves over with a merger with DEI.  The car finished 33rd in the points with only two top ten place finishes, but is going to get the owners points from the #15 car.

46-Carl Long, Dennis Setzer--Danielle long

Carl looks to be in this car at Daytona and the All-Star Race.  Dennis should be in this car in Matinsville in March.  Romeo Guest Construction is the sponsor.  I do not see a top 20 in the car no matter what race it is in.

51--Kelly Bires, Dexter Bean--Black Jack Racing

No sponsorship has been announced yet for this part time team.  Kelly is expected to qualify for the Daytona 500.

60--Boris Said--Carter/Simo Racing

Boris had only three starts in 2008 with a best finish of 24th.  He also had a few Nationwide Series starts with a best finish of fifth. 7-11 and SoBe No Fear Energy Drink could be sponsors of he runs.  I say that he gets in 5-10 races in 2009 with one top ten.

71--Mike Wallace--TRG Motorsports

Looks like Mike will run the Daytona 500 only.  No sponsorship has been announced for this car.  Mike ran a full Nationwide Series season where he finished 8th place in the points.  I see this car not getting a top 20 at Daytona.

75--Derrike Cope--Cope/Keller Racing

Derrike is going attempt the Daytona 500 this year and more races if they have enough sponsorship.  Blu Frog Energy Drink will be the sponsor for the Daytona race. He did get in 29 Nationwide series races in 2008 with no top ten finishes though.  I say he gets no top 20 place finishes in the races that he runs and he will be in under 18 races this year.

78--Regan Smith--Furniture Row Racing

Regan Smith has been named the driver for this team and picked up rookie of the year honors. Regan finished the year 34th place in the points with no top tens. This team completed an almost full season on racing in the 2008 season.  The car finished 42nd in the owner points in 2008.  Furniture Row will be the sponsor if they run and no schedule of races they will run is out yet.  I say he pulls in one top 20 place finish in 2009.
