Two wins for Martin this year.

For the second week in a row Sprint Cup drivers are under the lights as they go 500 miles in the Southern 500.  Matt set a track record for his poll-winning run.

At the drop of the green flag it was only a few laps and then the caution came out as Scott Speed and Max Papis got together.  Some of the cars on the lead lap pit which included Jimmie Johnson.

After the green flag dropped it was a short green flag run that saw Jeff Gordon get the lead of race on lap 17.  Then at lap 21 it was Michael Waltrip spinning out.  Almost everyone on the lead lap pits.  Ryan Newman won the race off pit road, but Jimmie Johnson stays out to lead the race.  

The green flag drops on lap 24 and in one lap it was Ryan Newman in the lead of the race.  At lap 30 we got a multi car wreck as Casey Mears helps collect Denny Hamlin and A.J. Allmendinger.

This led to the first long green flag run on the day where Kasey Kahne on lap 71 was able to get the lead of the race from Ryan Newman. At lap 74 Jimmie Johnson had to make a green flag pit stop for tires and fuel.  While he was on pit road on the next lap Michael Waltrip and his car blew up big time in a fiery mess, but was able to make it on pit road.  Michael stated that he was scared at first.

That left Jimmie only one lap down with Kasey Kahne in the lead at the drop of the green flag.  During this green flag run at lap 105 it was Jeff Gordon coming in to fix a loose wheel.  At lap 116 Martin Truex Jr. got the lead of the race and in a couple laps Sam Hornish Jr. spins out to bring out the caution.  This caution put Jimmie Johnson back on the lead lap.

Greg Biffle won the race off pit road and the lead of the race. During this green flag run he busted out to a commanding lead of five seconds plus.  It all went away at lap 160 as Denny Hamlin and David Ragan got together.

During pit stops this time Greg Biffle kept the lead of the race while Mark Martin had to come in for a second time due to a missing lug nut.  Greg Biffle was able top bust out another big lead again, but it all went away again as David Ragan spins out again at lap 185.

Greg Biffle took only two tires this time along with the rest of the cars in the top ten. It was a short green flag runt this time and yet again David Ragan was the car to bring out the caution on lap 196.

This green flag run saw Kasey Kahne going hot into a corner on lap 205 and hitting David Stremme. This left major front bumper damage and on the next lap Kasey Kahne comes in for service.

Then at lap 214 it was Kurt Busch spinning out leaving a whole lot of smoke, but no one wound up hitting him.  This caution brought in all the leaders and Martin Truex Jr. won the race off pit road this time while Greg Biffle came out in eighth.  This caution brought back Jeff Gordon to the lead lap.

A short green flag run occurred and at lap 222 A.J. Allmendinger and Clint Boyer get together.  Clint winds up smacking the inside wall first and the smacking the outside wall as well.

The green flag dropped again and with another bottleneck of drivers David Reutimann wound up getting the worst of it and wound up with some heavy damage, but no caution.

Then at lap 249 we had the first debris caution of the night.  Greg Biffle took the lead of the race with a two tire stop. Joey Logano also did it as well and came out second.

After the green flag went flying again David Reutimann wound up with more problems and almost caused a big wreck trying to get to the bottom of the track and onto pit road.  He wound up with the black-flag at lap 264 for dragging his rear lid.

With 93 laps left it was Kyle Busch bringing his car behind the wall as his breaks went bye bye.  Then on the next lap Jamie McMurray cuts tire and the caution comes out.  The leaders pit and Joey with only two tires again winds up leading the race with Ryan Newman out in second.

The green flag drops and the next car to hit the wall get major damage was Carl Edwards who could then not get to pit road and brings out the caution with 84 laps left..

The green flag drops and somehow with 78 laps to go Sam Hornish Jr. takes a wild ride, but does not bring out the caution. With 72 laps though a Greg Biffle spin does bring out the caution.

 Martin Truex Jr. Stays out this time in order to take the lead of the race.  Tony Stewart in third was first car off pit road.  Joey wound up coming out starting eighth.  With 58 laps left Joey moved into fifth place while Martin Truex Jr. had a 2 second plus lead.

With 50 laps left it was Sam Hornish Jr. smacking hard into the wall, he was able to get to pit road.  Two more laps go by and the record tying fifteenth caution came out for debris.  Seven cars stay out leaving Mark Martin in the lead of the race with Jimmie Johnson in second.  Tony Stewart in eighth was the first car off pit road.

The green flag dropped with 42 laps left and Mark got a quick big lead as Jimmie Johnson and Ryan were fighting for second.   With 37 laps left it was Tony Stewart up to fourth.  With 33 laps left Brian Vickers went up the hill and into the wall, with nowhere to go was Jamie McMurray winding up with some damage.

With 25 laps left a Dale Jr. spin brings out caution flag number seventeen.  The green flag drops with 21 laps left.  Jimmie and Mark leave Tony behind.  With 15 laps left Dale Jr. had major smoking problems.

Mark Martin starts to pull away from Jimmie Johnson onto his second win of the 2009 season.

"It feels great," said Mark on the win.  He stated that when he got out front it was easy.

"We had a great race car," said Jimmie Johnson.  

"Amazing car," said Jeff Gordon.

Jeff Gordon now has a 29 point lead over Tony Stewart for the lead in points.

A Member Of
