The Pit Stop

July 26, 2009 3:02 AM

Carl comes from back to win.

Double Duty drivers made the short helicopter ride over to ORP for the Kroger 200 benefiting Riley Hospital for Children.  Eighteen-year-old Trevor Bayne won the poll for the short race tonight.

"Awesome race to watch," said Brad Coleman.  "Looking forward to this race all day," said Carl Edwards.

At the drop of the green flag it was Brad Coleman starting in second getting loose in turn one and hitting the wall.  At lap 5 it was the first caution on the night for debris.

After the green flag dropped it was another short green flag run, with the caution at lap 21, and then Brad Keselowski winds up hitting Scott Lagasee Jr. sending him into the wall.  With nowhere to go was Mike Bliss and then he crashes in Scott.  Scott stated that he did not know what happened.  "Couldn't get slowed down," said Mike Bliss.

Carl Edwards and Kyle Busch who started in the back were around the 20th position by the time of this caution.

The next caution came out at lap 35 for Michael Annett who winds up crashing.  Then the pace car came out too early.  The leader of the race which was still Trevor Bayne at the time slows up to not pass the pace car that came out early, behind him in second was Steven Wallace who winds bumping into Trevor spinning him out.  Both cars then went too fast to get to the front and got put back a few spots for doing so.

Another short green flag run and it was Ken Butler hitting the wall to bring out the caution. Most of the leaders have not pit yet.  This finally led to a long green flag run lasting around 40 laps   Scott Wimmer went three wide to get the lead of the race and busted a 3 second plus lead during this time period.

The caution came out for Chase Austin who crashes. This caution was the one to bring in the leaders.  Kyle Busch was able to beat all the cars of pit road. Jason Keller though stays out to take the lead of the race.

After the green flag dropped it was Kyle Busch quickly taking the lead of the race.  At lap 108 it was Erik Darnell hitting the wall, but not brining out the caution.

Then it was a battle for the lead between Carl Edwards and Kyle Busch. At lap 121 Carl Edwards was finally able to lead the race.  Then Carl breaks out to a two second plus lead.

With 50 laps left it was Carl in the lead with Kyle in second and Matt Kenseth in third.  Ten laps later and the lead by Carl was up to three seconds.

With around 32 laps left it was Justin Allgaier spinning out to bring out the caution. The leaders pit and Kyle Busch wins the race off pit road with Carl Edwards coming out in second.

The green flag drops with 26 laps left.  Carl took many attempts down low to take the lead including one attempt where Carl and Kyle touch big time.  Carl finally took the lead with 21 laps left.

Carl Edwards then broke out to another second plus lead and the win of the race.

Carl stated that is was a lot of fun moving up through the field

"Just didn't have it today," said Kyle Busch.  He sated that he made one extra pit stop than Carl to make his car good.

The win by Carl still leaves him 192 points of Kyle for the lead in points
