The Pit Stop

Mark Martin wins another one.

The Sprint Cup drivers have made it to New Hampshire for the first of the ten chase races to determine a champion.  On Friday Juan Pablo Montoya set a track record in getting the poll for the race.

"Our car is pretty fast," said Carl Edwards.  Jeff Gordon stated that he is going to have to battle on the restarts.  

At the drop of the green flag it was along run before caution one.  Tony Stewart led the first lap and then Juan Pablo Montoya took over the lead for a while getting his lead up over two seconds before Tony started to track him down and take over the lead of the race on lap 37.

Green flag racing continued until lap 66 as the fist chase driver to wind up with car problems, Kasey Kahne, blows an engine.  Kasey stated that he felt it down the backstretch, but temperatures look fine and then it just got worse.

This brought in all the leaders and Juan was able to beat all cars off pit road.  Green flag racing only continued until lap 85 and the first debris caution of the day came out.  The cars up front stayed out.

This led to another long green flag where Juan led more laps. Kurt Busch then started to reel in Juan and passed him for the lead of the race on lap 125.  Green flag racing continued until lap 141 for the second debris caution of the day.

The green flag drops and both Denny Hamlin and Montoya hit each other.  That caused Denny Hamlin to lead a few laps before Juan took the lead of the race again.  Green flag racing only lasted until 161 as Erik Darnell spins out to bring out the caution.  During this set of pit stops Kurt Busch leaving his pit wound up spinning David Ragan into his pit stall.  Juan took two tires that caused him many spots on pit road.  Tony Stewart took the lead of the race.

This was only a short green flag run and a pile up in the back occurs on 167 as Paul Menard, Michael Waltrip, Robby Gordon, Elliott Sadler and John Andretti all get together.

The green flag drops and it was not long for Jeff Burton spins out to bring out the caution.

After the green flag dropped again Jimmie Johnson won the race to first.  Juan makes a bold move and goes three wide in order to help get him up to fifth.  Juan got up as far as third place and then the caution came out on lap 193 as David Stremme spins out with some contact from A.J. Allmendinger.

This caution brought in a bunch of cars on pit road and Kurt Busch wound up leading the race as he does not pit.  Juan lost a bunch of spots taking all four tires. Tony Stewart wound up spending a long time on pit road in order to work on the rear the car, but did not go a lap down.

After the green flag dropped Mark Martin took the lead with 97 laps to go.  Juan though was moving up the field and quickly got back into the top 10.  With 58 laps left Mark Martin pits under green and gives up the lead and it put him back in 29th place.  

It put Kurt Busch in the lead and he comes down pit road with 53 laps left.  This put Denny Hamlin in the lead.  Mark Martin was able to pass Denny to put him back on the lead lap.  With 40 laps left Jimmie Johnson made his pit stop.  Dale Jr. comes on down pit road two laps later.  Juan Pablo Montoya comes down one laps later and Denny Hamlin finally gives up the lead with 36 laps left.

This left Ryan Newman in the lead of the race, but he soon pits and gives the lead to Carl Edwards and he pits with 33 laps left. Marcos Ambrose then had the lead

With 30 laps left Kevin Harvick wind up with some car problems and spends a long time on pit road.  On the next lap Marcos pits and Mark Martin winds up with a 2 second plus lead over Kurt Busch.

With 24 laps left the caution finally comes out for debris.  With 18 laps left the green flag drops and Mark quickly takes the lead of the race, but the caution also quickly came out as Dale Jr. crashes.  He was in the top 10 at the time of the wreck.  Dale stated that he had a pretty good run.

The green flag drops with 14 laps left and Mark wins the race to first.  On the next lap Juan goes three wide again and takes over third spot.  With seven laps left it was A.J. Allmendinger spinning out to bring out the caution.

The green flag drops with three laps left.  Mark was able to get the lead of the race.  On the final lap A.J. Allmendinger spins out again, but the caution flag does not come out until Mark is in the final corner.  Mark went on to win his first race at the track.
"Alan won the race," said Mark Martin.  "This is just incredible.

Juan stated that he came back strong and next time he would give Mark a bump.
