Jimmie Wins, Marcos Blows It Big Time

Jimmie Johnson Wine county.jpgSprint Cup drivers are at wine country for the first road course race of the Sprint Cup season. The winner of the race last year Kasey Kahne picked up the poll for this event.

At the drop of the green flag it was Jimmie Johnson winning the battle for first while Kasey Kahne wound up dropping back and loosing positions. The first caution finally comes out on lap 11 for the spinning cars of Jamie McMurray and Clint Boyer. A.J. Allmendinger, Kyle Busch, and Elliott Sadler also get involved with Kyle getting the worst of the damage. Kyle went behind the wall for repairs.

Cars in the back pitted for tires and fuel.

This led to a long green flag run where Jimmie Johnson wound up leading more and more laps. Marcos Ambrose got into second place and stayed in his position. Green flag pit stops finally started at lap 27 as Marcos gave up his second place spot for service. Then Kurt Busch pits on the next lap. Jimmie Johnson finally pits on lap 33. Tony Stewart gets lead for a bit and then he pits on lap 37 to give Mattias Ekstrom the lead. Jimmie passes Mattias on lap 43 to get the lead back.

Jimmie continues to stretch his lead to around 13 seconds over Martin Truex Jr. and the caution finally comes out on lap 59 for Dave Blaney as his pins out and sits idle on the race track. Boris Said and a few other cars stay out while Jimmie Johnson and other cars pit. Jimmie won the race off pit road and restarts the race in seventh.

Boris quickly gets the lead, has a wild entrance into turn one, but still keeps the lead of the race. He did not keep it long though and Marcos Ambrose leads the race at lap 62.

At lap 62 it was David Ragan spinning out, but did not bring out the caution. Brad Keselowski though on lap 64 goes off the track and brings out the caution. The green flag drops and then it quickly goes back to caution as in the back Sam Hornish Jr., Denny Hamlin, Martin Truex Jr., Regan Smith, and Max Papis all get together. The caution brought out the red flag.

Martin Truex Jr. states that people are just wild on the restarts and that he is not happy with Jeff Gordon. "Just trying to make it to the end," said Sam Hornish Jr. After the lengthy red flag drivers such as Boris Said pit. This left Marcos Ambrose in the lead.

Marcos kept on leading laps with Jimmie back in second place. Lap 79 saw cars come down pit road for service. At the end of lap 79 Jimmie came down for his service. On the next lap Marcos pitted and was able to get just ahead of Jimmie coming out of pit road. Clint Boyer though was now the race leader. More cars pit and Boris Said now lead the race.

The caution finally comes out on lap 85 as Joey Logano spins out from a hit by Juan Pablo Montoya. The caution did bring in a bunch of cars down pit road for service. That moved Marcos up to third and Jimmie up to fifth.

The race restarts with 23 laps left and Boris has another horrible first turn due to a hit from Bad Keselowski which causes Marcos to get the lead of the race with Jimmie moving into second.

The caution comes out on lap 92 for the spinning car of Mattias Ekstrom who got hit from Brad Keselowski.
With 16 laps left the green flag drops and Marcos wins the battle for the lead of the race. Elliott Salder and Clint Boyer get together with 10 laps left, but do not bring out the caution.

8 laps left saw the caution come out again for Brad Keselowski who crashes. On the next lap while going up then hill Marcos Ambrose suddenly slows up big time. He wound up having to restart the race in seventh after moving his back into the lead of the race.. This was able to move Robby Gordon into second place.

Jimmie Johnson gets the solid restart and easily takes first place with five laps left. At the top of the track Jeff Burton gets spun out, but does not bring out the caution. Ambrose was able to get move into sixth place and not get any higher. Jimmie went on to win his first road course race race.

"He's(Marcos) kicking himself for whatever went wrong their," said Jimmie Johnson. He also stated that Marcos was the fastest car at the end of the race.

"Good run for us," said Robby Gordon who finished in second.

Kasey Kahne stated that it was a good run for the Budweiser Ford.

"I completely messed that up," said Jeff Gordon on his incident with Martin Truex Jr. and that Martin races a lot of guys clean.

"I felt like I could run with the 48 when it was time to go," said Kevin Harvick.

Greg Biffle stated that he had a really good car.

Marcos Ambrose stated that he does not know the rule and that he is very disappointed.
