Joey Chestnut Cruises At Annual Hot Dog Eating Contest

.JoeyChestnut2010.jpgJoey "Jaws" Chestnut easily retained his Mustard Yellow Belt as 16 competitors went into battle for the belt in the annual Nathan's International Hot Dog Eating Contest. Joey Chestnut was back as the three time champ looking to beat his world record of 68 dogs and buns in 10 minutes. That is over 20,000 calories of just Nathan's hot dogs and buns.

In major news for the event Takeru Kobayashi who is the main challenger to Joey is not going to be in the event due to a contract dispute with Major League Eating. He did show up for the event though to watch all the gurgitation take place.

"I feel empty and hungry," said Joey before the event.

During the event Joey got out to a three dog and bun lead after the first minute over Tim "Eater X" Janus and never looked back. He continued to increase his lead over Tim, but was well off his record pace. The fight for third place took a few minutes to sort out, but Patrick Bertoletti won the war. At the end it was Joey beating Tim by nine hot dogs and buns with a score of 54-45.  Patrick finish the contest at 37 dogs and buns.

Joey stated after the event that he was "slower than he wanted to be." He also stated that he was a bit dehydrated before the event.
