Second Win For Reutimann

David Reutimann Chicago.jpgSprint Cup drivers are back for the once a year race at Chicagoland. Earlier in the week it was Jamie McMurray winning the poll for the Saturday night event.

Kyle Busch stated that he feels his car is decent. "Were making progress," said Mark Martin on making the chase.
The green flag drops and it was Jimmie Johnson winning the fight for first place. It got to be a good green flag run that lasted until lap 39 for David Stremme that hit the wall. Jimmie led all the laps in the segment of green flag racing.

The leaders pitted and Jimmie Johnson won the race off pit road. The green flag drops and we get an even longer green flag run this time. Jimmie keeps o-n leading lap and puts up a 2 second plus lead on Jamie McMurray by the time pit stops started around lap 93. During this time Jimmie Johnson winds up missing the entrance to pit road. He had to make an extra lap around the track and fell back to third place after pit stops were over. Jamie McMurray gets the lead after green flag pit stops.

Jimmie Johnson gets really hot and starts to erase his 4 second deficit to Jamie. Around lap 124 Jimmie finally caught up to Jamie, but he just could not pass him for the lead of the race. The second caution does finally come out on lap 129 for debris. This brought in the leaders and Jamie McMurray wins the race off pit road.

The green flag drops and Jamie wins the war for the lead, but it was not long before Jimmie Johnson gets loose and spins out. He did not damage anything, but lost over 20 spots on the track.

Jamie McMurray quickly gets the lead after the drop of the green flag. Jimmie Johnson though is slowly moving up the field was only 19th at lap 165. A hot Jeff Gordon though at lap 166 takes the lead of the race from Jamie. 8 laps later and Jimmie Johnson has to make a pit stop to replace a bad tire. That put him down to 33rd position and 2 laps down.
Lap 179 brings out the next caution as Bill Elliott crashes. Then Robby Gordon tries to slow up and smacks Bill Elliott and his car big time. The caution brought in the leaders and this time Jeff Gordon won the race off pit road.

After the green flag dropped Jeff Gordon easily got the lead of the race. Kevin Harvick who did not have a good car all night long wound going behind the wall for some major changes to his car on lap 194. David Reutimann was the next car to get hot and got right behind Jeff on lap 202. On David's second real attempt to get the lead he finally got it on lap 213.

Then David started pull away from Jeff. Around lap 226 the engine on Greg Biffle and his car went poof, He was able to make it to pit road and not bring out the caution. With 35 laps left the leaders pitted for service. After green flag pit stops were over David Reutimann was back in the lead of the race.

Carl Edwards then got hot and took over second place and started to chase down David Reutimann. As the laps went down Carl could not really get the lead down under 2 seconds as David Reutimann wins the race.

"Everybody did such a great job today," said David Reutimann. "I'm about to cry, this is awesome." David also stated that we earned this one and that no one gave this one to us.  The first win for David came last year at the Coca Cola 600.

"I needed a couple more laps," said Carl Edwards.

"The car was good all weekend long," said Clint Boyer.
