Juan Finally Breaks Winless Streak

Juanwatkins.jpgSprint Cup drivers are back for the final time this year at a road course race at Watkins Glen. Carl Edwards in Saturday morning qualifying was able win the poll for the event.

"Really happy with balance after happy hour," said Tony Stewart. "Got to stay out of trouble," said Kevin Harvick. "I think the chances are pretty good," said Juan Pablo Montoya on winning thr race. "Running really really fast," said Greg Biffle.

Before the race started it was Kyle Busch having to go down pit road to fix a problem with his car.
The race starts with Jamie McMurray leading as Carl Edwards fell back to fifth. In a couple laps Juan Montoya raced his way to the lead of the race. Marcos Ambrose was moving up the field and Kyle Busch made a big move from the back.

Lap 10 saw a Kevin Conway spin that did not bring out the caution at all, One of the first green flag pit stops started on lap 16 for Jimmie Johnson to replace some bad tires. Lap 24 though really started the first round off green flag pit stops get going. Two laps later and Juan Montoya pits. The first caution finally came out on lap 28 as P.J. Jones spins out. Juan had a 8.4 second lead go to junk.

The green flag drops at lap 31 with Juan easily getting the lead of the race. In a few laps Marcos was in second and a major fight for the lead of the race occurs. Marcos tried for many laps to get by Juan and finally able to get the lead of the race on lap 40.

Lap 42 sees the next caution for a Bobby Labonte Spin. Leaders do not pit this time and the green flag drops at lap 46. Marcos has a horrible first turn and falls back to fourth. Two laps later and he passes A.J. Allmendinger for third. At lap fifty he passed Kurt Busch for second and started to chase down Juan who had a 2.5 second lead. Marcos was quickly pulling Juan in over the new few laps.

Lap 57 though saw the next round of green flag pit stops. Lap 58 saw Marcos finally get right Juan for the lead. On the next lap both Juan and Marcos pit together with Juan beating Marcos off pit road. Around lap 61 it was Clint Boyer who dropped a car part on the track and went behind the wall for repairs. On the next lap the debris caution came out.
The green flag drops with 26 laps left and Greg Biffle got squeezed out of his racing line and lost a ton of spots on the track. Greg fell back to 25th from 8th. One lap later and Tony Stewart winds up hitting Boris Said and sending him into the wall to bring out the caution.

Boris stated that he did not know what Tony was thinking. "I think we had a top five car."

The green flag drops with 21 laps left and Juan won the race to first with Marcos in second, but one lap later and the caution comes out as Jimmie Johnson spins out brining up a whole lot of smoke. Denny Hamlin who could not see a thing winds up hitting Jimmie.

"Frustrating day," said Denny Hamlin. He stated that his car was around a tenth place car.

With 16 laps left the green flag drops again and Kurt Busch this time was to get second place while Juan took the lead again. It was not long and Marcos was in second place again. This time though Juan was just increasing his lead of Marcos lap after lap.

With six laps left both Robby Gordon and Regan Smith wind up with car problems, but somehow do not bring out the caution.

On the final lap Kurt Busch was able to muscle his way around Marcos for second place as Juan was able to cruise on to win the race.

"Its about time to get another one, said Juan Pablo Montoya.

"We tried hard all day," said Marcos Ambrose.

"We had a hard fought battle today," said Kurt Busch.

A.J. Allmendinger said his car was strong all day.
