Carl Edwards Takes Charlotte
With only a few races left to crown a champion the Nationwide Series drivers are back to Charlotte for 300 miles of action packed racing. Reed Sorenson is back again in the #82 car trying top finish off the season in the top five in points. Paul Menard though in the afternoon qualifying took the poll for the race.
"We weren't the fastest car in practice," said Carl Edwards.
"I think we have a decent hot rod," said Trevor Bayne.
The race started off with Paul Menard leading laps as Brad Keselwoski rotted in second, but was slowly fading back. The first caution popped out at lap 25 for Joe Nemecheck and his blown engine. The leaders pitted and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was fist to exit pit road and take the lead of the race.
This time we only had a short green flag run and at lap 39 it was blown engine time for Reed Soresnon. After the green flag dropped again Brad Keselwoski got the best of the restart and took the race lead. Then he quickly built a second lead over Elliott Sadler. At lap 66 it was up to 3.3 seconds over Paul Menard. Two more laps go by and his lead is toast as a debris caution comes out.
The leaders pit and Brad was able to keep his lead off pit road. After the green flag dropped again Brad took the lead of the race after a short fight from Paul Menard. As the green flag laps were flying by Kyle Busch moved his way into second place and rotted in that spot. At lap 100 he was around 1.7 seconds back of the leader. 24 more laps go by and the first round of green flag pit stop start. Three laps later and the caution though comes out as Ryan Truex hits the wall.
The leaders pit and Kyle Busch wins the race off pit road this time. It was not long though after the green flag dropped again though and Brad was back in the lead of the race. With 58 laps left though Paul Menard makes an unscheduled pit stop to replace a bad tire.
With 40 laps left Brad Keselwoski had around a 1 second lead over Kyle Busch. Ten laps later and he causes the caution as his car slows up big time and then spins out. The caution brought in the leaders where Ricky Stenhouse Jr. takes only two tires to win the race off pit road. Elliott Sadler also takes two tires to come out second.
The green flag drops and Elliott Sadler gets the best of the restart and the lead of the race. Kyle Busch though easily takes over second and then the race lead. Then Ricky starts to battle with Ellliott for second place. With 21 laps left Elliott got passed for second place. On the next lap Kasey Kahne loses control, hits the wall, but somehow does not bring out the next caution. Five laps later and the caution comes out for debris from his car.
What popped out next was a short green flag run. Joey Logano moved up to second place, but with eight laps left he got loose with some help from Trevor Bayne to hit the wall and bring out the caution. The green flag drops again and this time Carl Edwards was able to beat Kyle Busch for the race lead as Ricky Stenhiouse Jr. has another poor restart.
On the final lap Kyle Busch tried once to get the race lead, but could not do it as he went on to win the race.
"This is huge," said Carl Edwards. He stated that he thought Brad had it.
"Great night for us," said Elliott Sadler.
Brad Keselowski stated he did not have enough laps left to win the race.
After this race is over Elliott Sadler is only 15 points back of the leader in points Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Reed Sorenson dropped to 5th place in the points, but has a healthy 57 point lead over the sixth place car with only three races left this season.
