Jeff Gordon stated that he is going to use the multiple groves to move up through the field.

The race started and Kevin Harvick did not get a start to the race easily giving A.J. Allmendinger the lead of the race. This was a long green flag run that saw drivers such as Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, and Greg Biffle move to the front of the field.

At lap 44 it was finally green flag pit stop time and A.J. Allmendinger finally gave up the race lead on lp 45. Denny Hamlin got to lead one lap and then Carl Edwards got to lead his first lap all season long before he finally pitted on lap 47. After the pit stops were over Martin Truex Jr. was in the lead of the race. Clint Bowyer at lap 48 was starting to have engine problems. Four more laps go by and the caution comes out for C;lint and his car as he tried to make to pit road, but spun out.

The top 12 cars stay out as the rest of the cars pit. The green flag drops and this was a wild restart for a few laps as a lot of three wide racing occurred. Martin Truex Jr. was leading more laps as A.J. Allmendinger and his car goes to junk. At lap 87 it was pit stop time for Kevin Harvick as his car was running out of gas. Then over the next few laps the rest of the cars came down pit road. Aric Almirola missed his pit stop causing him to go around the track before coming back down pit road. Jimmie Johnson though had a slow pit stop due to a missing lug nut.

After the pit stops were over Martin Truex Jr. had a lead of nine seconds over Denny Hamlin. Martin held his big lead over the next 30 plus laps. At lap 132 Jamie McMurray was getting service on what would have started another round of green flag pit stops, but the debris caution came out.

The leaders pit and Martin Truex Jr. won the race off pit road. During this caution time the race was about to go back to green flag racing, but Clint Bowyer and his car was smoking really bad and he went behind the wall and ended his race day.
"I had a really good car," said Clint Bowyer.

The green flag dropped and Martin Truex Jr. easily kept the race lead as Denny Hamlin was slow to restart. During this long green flag run Jimmie Johnson got hot and was chasing down Denny Hamlin. With around 105 laps left Jimmie was right behind Martin for the race lead. Over the next bunch of laps Jimmie tried to go down low to pass Martin, but could not do it. With 92 laps left it was green flag pit stop time. Three laps later and both Jimmie Johnson and Martin Truex Jr. pit.

After the pit stops were over Martin was in the lead with Jimmie right behind him for second place. The third caution of the day finally came out with 79 laps left as Juan Pablo Montoya hits the wall. Eight cars stay out while the rest of the cars on the lead lap including Jimmie Johnson pit.

The race restarted and Jimmie Johnson started to move his way back through the field. With 66 laps left he was back into the top five. Over the next bunch of laps Martin Truex Jr. was still leading the race as Jimmie was still moving up through the field. With 47 laps left green flag pit stops started. Jimmie Johnson though pits with 45 laps left while Martin Truex Jr. goes one lap more before he pits. This left Juan Pablo Montoya in the lead for a couple of laps before he pitted and this put Sam Hornish Jr. in the lead until he pitted with 35 laps left. This put Martin Truex Jr. finally back into the race lead.

With 33 laps left Denny Hamlin made his first attempt to get the race, but it did not work. Two more laps go by and his next attempt worked and he got the lead. Jimmie Johnson though was getting closer and closer while Jeff Gordon and his engine was going bad. With 20 laps left Jeff made an unscheduled pit stop. At this time though Martin Truex Jr. was inching his way back to the race lead while Jimmie Johnson was still in third place. With 14 laps left it was Mark Martin getting engine problems. Over the next bunch of laps Martin was getting closer and closer to Denny for the race lead. With three laps he made an attempt to get the lead, but could not do it and got sideways. Then on the final lap he tried one more time, but it did not work and Denny Hamlin went on to win the race.

"Great day for our race team," said Denny Hamlin.

Martin Truex Jr. stated that his car got loose on the last set of tires.

"We had good speed," said Jimmie Johnosn.
