Martin Truex Jr. picked off the poll for the first night race of the Sprint Cup season. The track was a nice and windy all night long.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. stated that his car was pretty good in practice.
The race started off with a long green lag run lasting more than a fuel run. It started off with Martin Truex Jr. lead a whole bunch of laps as Greg Biffle got hot and Kevin Harvick got even hotter. Greg Biffle was able to get the lead of the race at lap 31 as Kevin Harvick continued to move up through the field.
At lap 44 it was green flag pit stop time. After the green flag pit stops were over Greg Biffle was in the lead while Kevin Harvick made his way up to second place. The green flag racing continued until lap 67 as the first caution came out for debris. This saved Matt Kenseth that was about to come down pit road to fix a bad tire.
The leaders pit and Martin Truex Jr. wins the race off pit road. The green flag drops and Greg Biffle gets the best of it to get the race lead. Matt Kenseth this time gets hot and takes the lead of the race on lap 82. Green flag racing did not go one for too much longer and on lap 93 Trevor Bayne hits the wall to bring out the caution.
The leaders pit and Martin Truex Jr. wins the race off pit road again. This led to the longest green flag run of the night. Jimmie Johnosn wound up being the hottest driver for most of this long green flag run. Greg Biffle got the best of the restart to lead some more laps as Jimmie Johnson takes over the lead at lap 113. He keeps on leading them as green flag pit stops started at lap 141. Jimmie Johnson waits until lap 148 which hurts him as he fell back to third place with Martin Truex Jr. leading more laps. Jimmie Johnson though was the faster car and was chasing down Martin very quickly.
At lap 180 Jimmie Johnson finally caught Martin Truex Jr. and passed him for the lead again. Five laps go by and Juan Pablo Montoya starts another round of green flag pit stops. Jimmie Johnson comes down only three laps later this time. After the pit stops were over Jimmie was back in the lead and putting more cars one lap down.
The green still continued and at Lap 229 we saw the second round in a row of green flag pit stops. Jimmie Johnson came down four laps later. After the pit stops were over it was Jimmie Johnson back in the lead. His lead with around 90 laps left was around 2 seconds over Greg Biffle. The lead though started to shrink and with less than 70 laps left it was under one second.
With 55 laps left the third round in a row of green flag pit stops start. Jimmie Johnson pits four laps later. And again Jimmie Johnson is in the lead after the pit stops were over. Greg Biffle was still in second place less than one second of the leader. Greg Biffle was finally getting hot and finally took over the race lead with 31 laps left. Greg then started to pull to a lead around one second big with only 20 laps left.
With 15 laps left Jimmie Johnson hits the wall and then starts to loose around a half a second a lap to Greg Biffle. With 10 laps left his lead was up to around 3.5 seconds. The rest of race went caution free as Greg took the win at Texas. The two cautions for the race sets a new track record for the fewest caution in one race at the track. This race also smashed the record for the fastest race ever at the track.
Greg Biffle stated that this was his first win as a dad.
"Had a great race car," said Jimmie Johnson.
"What a race car we had," said Jeff Gordon.
Martin Truex Jr. stated that we were off a little bit the second half of the race. He also stated that he had to save gas.
