Austin Dillion Gets His First Nationwide Series Win

Austin Dillion Kentucky 2012.jpgOn a hot Friday the Nationwide Series drivers went to Kentucky for a big race. A wind storm occurred earlier at the track and caused some minor damage at the track. Austin Dillion though picked off the poll for the event.

"Here tonight with fast Sam's Club Mustang," said Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

Danica Patrikck stated that she has been improving over the past month or two.

The race started out with Austin Dillion leading laps and starting build up a nice lead and then on lap 25 Jamie Mosley spins out to bring out the caution. The leaders pit and Austin kept the lead of the race.

This led to a long green flag run that saw Austin Dillion leading a whole lot more laps. He kept on leading them all until he pitted for fuel and tires on lap 82. This put Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in the lead for a couple laps before he pitted. Justin Allgaier then got to lead a couple laps and then Austin Dillion was back in the lead of the race.

At lap 106 Austin Dillion put Elliott Sadler a lap down who was in the 11th place spot. He had a massive over 6 second lead at the time over Kevin Harvick that was in second place. At lap 130 Kevin Harvick made his second green flag pit stop which was slightly early. At lap 135 it was Denny Hamlin and his engine went south, but Denny was able to make it down pit road and not cause the caution.

Three more laps go by and the bulk of the green flag pit stops start. Austin Dillion finally pits on lap 141 and this put Michael Annett in the race lead. The second caution finally came out on lap 145 for Mike Wallace that smacked the wall.

Michael Annett pits under the caution giving Austin Dillion the race lead back. When the race restarted Austin was back leading more laps. With 22 laps left Brian Scott wound up with a bad motor and was on pit road. In the final laps Kurt Busch who was in second lost a cylinder, but was able to finish the race in second. Austin was able to squash his competition by over 9 seconds.

"Just real emotional," said Danny Stockman who is the Crew Chief for Austin Dillion.

"Really proud to get these guys to victory lane," said Austin Dillion. Austin stated that he was loose for the whole race. The win was his first Nationwide Series win and with the win he took over the race lead in point by two points over Elliott Sadler.

"Everything was great tonight," said Richard Childress who is the car owner and Grandfather of Austin Dillion.

"Austin Dillion was fast tonight," said Kurt Busch.

"Look like we went the wrong way with adjustments," said Ricky Stenhouse Jr. who finished eighth.

Sam Hornish Jr. stated that he just did not have enough time to work on the car like he wanted too.

Tonight is the Sprint Cup.. I feel way more likely to have a race recap after the race is over.
